Johnny Vaught, Republican nominee for Horry County Council District 8, launches general election campaign geared toward meeting and understanding the needs and concerns of voters

Conway – Johnny Vaught officially started his general election campaign today. Building on his efforts from the primary Vaught is looking forward to discussing the issues with voters in District 8. Vaught had this to say, “I’m really excited about getting out there and talking with the voters, especially those I missed during the primary. I believe in listening first and working to earn the vote of the people. That’s what I did in the primary, and I will continue by amplifying those efforts in the general.

Vaught went on to elaborate on the role constituents play in generating ideas. “New ideas are essential to fostering good government and often they originate from the electorate. This is one reason why it’s vital to maintain good reliable constituent service – reaching out to constituents and listening to their concerns directly helps to ensure you remain an effective advocate for people. This is an extremely vital part of public service and is something I’m completely committed to developing in District 8.”

“There are a number of different issues impacting District 8,” Vaught said. “Harkening back to the primary, I received a great deal of feedback on infrastructure, particularly those issues relating to Highway 501, International Drive, the intersection at Carolina Forest Blvd., and increased access to Conway Hospital from Singleton Ridge Road. I also learned there were concerns about both fire insurance rates and public safety in District 8. With so many retirees residing in Horry County we have to be cognizant of their needs and that’s why I’ll work to ensure our first responders always have the tools and training they need to effectively protect the public. I look forward to discussing these topics and others further as we progress into the general election campaign.”

Johnny Vaught is the current Vice President of the Horry County Higher Education Commission and a member of the Waccamaw Sertoma Club. He is also president of the Atlantic Center POA and the Hut Bible Class. He is a former engineering professor and Department Head at Horry Georgetown Technical College and past President of both the Conway Chamber of Commerce and Waccamaw Sertoma. A member of First United Methodist Church and classic car enthusiast, Vaught lives in Conway with his wife, Margaret Ann, and children, Jonathan, Jeremy, Emily and John Kelly.
